On Monday, June 16, 2014, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) held a reception outside her Thousand Oaks office for the nine Ventura County high school students nominated by her who accepted appointments to U.S. service academies – the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York (USMA), the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland (USNA), and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado (USAFA).
