Washington, D.C. – Rep. Julia Brownley released the following statement after the Obama Administration’s announcement that the number of homeless veterans has decreased by nearly half since 2010:

“Providing a safe shelter for our veterans is part of our solemn duty – to care for those who’ve served our country in uniform. As a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I am proud of the work we have done to decrease the number of homeless veterans.”

“While we have made progress, there are still thousands of veterans living without access to permanent and dependable housing. I will continue to work with my colleagues on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, the VA, and veterans support groups to address the complex causes of homelessness and expand access to health care, education, and employment opportunities that our veterans deserve.”

“I am pleased that we were able to secure over $110,000 for HUD-VASH grants earlier this year for Ventura County that would help homeless veterans in transition into safe and affordable housing.”
