Washington, DC – Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) issued the following statement today following passage in the U.S. House of Representatives of the GOP Scam 2.0:
“We need a federal tax code that puts more money back in the pockets of working families and small businesses, incentivizes innovation, and spurs real job growth. Sadly, the ‘tax scam’ that Congressional Republicans pushed through today once again proves that lining the pockets of the 1% is their top priority – even if it means hurting Californians and sticking hardworking families with the bill.
“This new tax scam doubles down on provisions that already were hurting my constituents. This includes making permanent the Republicans’ limits on the state and local tax deduction and the mortgage interest deduction, both of which are aimed squarely at hurting Californians’ pocketbooks. This Republican plan also explodes the deficit by trillions, further endangering Medicare and Social Security for our seniors and sticking our children with the bill, all in favor of wealthy special interests.
“I will continue to fight for a long-lasting, bipartisan agreement to make the tax code fairer for middle-class families, help small businesses succeed, encourage innovation, and incentivize companies to create jobs here in Ventura County.”
