Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) announced that Ventura County will receive more than $67,000 in funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to support 390 Senior Corps volunteers. This grant, awarded to the City of Oxnard Recreation Division, will continue the presence of the Senior Corps Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) in the region.
“The amazing individuals who volunteer with Senior Corps do everything from providing after-school tutoring, to helping at local hospitals, to aiding the homeless,” said Congresswoman Brownley. “I am so pleased to see the City of Oxnard Recreation Division receive support for this important and life-changing program.”
“Matching senior volunteers with identified community needs, the Oxnard RSVP provides a great service to both our community and those who are seeking to help others,” said Oxnard City Manager Alexander Nguyen. “We are proud to be able to host this federal program that does so much good locally.”
The funds were awarded as part of a grant competition to strengthen and expand RSVP programming. The RSVP projects will leverage the skills and experience of seniors in Ventura County through a network of three Senior Corps programs — the Foster Grandparent Program, the Senior Companion Program, and RSVP.
