Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-CA) released the following statement on her appointment to the House Committee on Natural Resources, which held its organizational meeting today:
“In Congress, I have the privilege to represent Ventura County, one of the nation’s most beautiful congressional districts, which is home to a biodiverse natural ecosystem that is comprised of scenic shorelines, abundant plains, and picturesque mountain ranges,” said Congresswoman Julia Brownley. “In recent years, we have seen our district ravaged by natural disasters that have been intensified by the climate crisis and, in the aftermath of these catastrophes, we have a duty to ensure communities like ours are resilient and our ecosystems are protected. It is an honor to join the Natural Resources Committee, where I can continue my work to protect communities like Ventura County and ensure that conservation, resource preservation, and ecosystem protection are a top priority for federal lands management agencies.”
“The Natural Resources Committee will also play a key role in our continued efforts to improve environmental justice for our Indigenous communities and communities of color. This work begins with ensuring that every bill that comes through our committee keeps environmental justice at the forefront. This must be an integral part in advancing our agenda to preserve our federal lands and natural resources and to fight against the climate crisis.”
In addition to the House Committee on Natural Resources, Brownley serves on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
