Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) issued the following statement on the nomination of Dr. David Shulkin to serve as the next Secretary of Veterans Affairs:

“I am pleased that the President-elect has selected a physician with extensive experience managing both private and public sector health care systems to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs. Providing consistent and strong leadership is essential to building and maintaining a 21st Century, veterans-focused VA. I will continue to partner with the VA, the veterans community, and my colleagues on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee to improve the quality of VA health care and support our nation’s veterans.”

BACKGROUND:

Dr. Shulkin serves as the Under Secretary for Health for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He has served in that position since 2015.

Congresswoman Brownley has served as the Ranking Member on the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health since 2013.
