Washington, DC – Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-CA) released the following statement on the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
“I am devastated by the news of Justice Ginsburg’s passing. America has lost a titan in the fight for equality. Justice Ginsburg was a trailblazing public servant who staunchly championed women’s rights from the beginning of her career until her dying breath.
“Her passing leaves a void in the heart of America. Her legacy of determination and perseverance represents the best of what America embodies and the unlimited possibilities of the human spirit.
“She led an amazing life even as she faced much adversity. She was a pioneer and she had a remarkable journey to the highest court of the land. She broke barriers as a great juris and served as a role model not only for this generation, but for generations to come. She was often the bold dissent of the court. She has been and forever will be an inspiration for so many in the ongoing fight to achieve equal rights for all in our nation.
“In her last days, she upheld the hope for our democracy. It was her fervent wish that a replacement judge not be appointed until after the 2020 election so that America’s next judge be represented by the true will of the people.
“She leaves behind a lifelong mission of fighting for gender equality and a legacy we must honor. May she forever rest in peace.”
