Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Julia Brownley, a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, released the following statement in response to a draft House Republican bill that would impose new GI Bill enrollment fees on servicemembers:
“I am absolutely opposed to imposing new fees on servicemembers or veterans who want to access their GI Bill benefits. We should not cut one veterans’ benefit to pay for another, and our servicemembers, who have already sacrificed so much for our nation, should not be asked to pay more just to access the education benefits that they have earned.”
“I am pleased that Chairman Roe has cancelled a planned hearing on this legislation. We need to go back to the drawing board and find a bipartisan path forward to improve veterans’ education benefits.”
