Washington, DC — Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-CA) released the following statement today regarding the Mueller Report:
“I am very concerned about the misleading impression Attorney General Barr has given the American people about the Mueller Report’s conclusions thus far. As Special Counsel Mueller wrote, ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.’ By defending the President’s actions and suggesting definitive conclusions about the President’s motives and intent, Barr has abdicated his oath, acting more like a defense attorney for the President than the Attorney General for the American people. Barr’s first and foremost allegiance should be to the Constitution – not to a President who is under investigation by the very department Barr leads. Attorney General Barr failed in this responsibility, and in so doing, failed the country. Congress must not make the same mistake. It is our constitutional duty to review this matter fully and draw our own independent conclusion about the President’s actions.”
