Proposal would rename main Oxnard post office after John Hatcher III
An effort to rename a South Coast post office after a longtime civil rights leader has taken a big step forward.
The House of Representatives passed a bill this week which would change the name of the main Oxnard Post Office to the John C. Hatcher III Post Office Building.
Hatcher dedicated his life to civil rights issues. He was a part of the Ventura County Chapter of the NAACP for nearly four decades. The local civil rights icon died in 2017.
Democratic Congresswoman Julia Brownley of Westlake Village authored the legislation, which now goes to the Senate for consideration.
