Months after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s remarkable “I Have a Dream” speech, Congress passed one of the most crucial civil rights laws in our nation’s history. It has been 50 years since Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which made great strides in prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin, including barring segregation in all facilities open to the public, thereby ending the Jim Crow era in certain regions of the country.
