Congresswoman Brownley Statement On Budget Vote

Dec 12, 2013
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) issued the following statement on her vote on the Murray-Ryan budget agreement.

“While this budget agreement is far from perfect, I voted for it because it is a bipartisan, two-year solution that will reduce the deficit, provide additional funds for critical priorities like education, end the short-sighted sequester cuts, and protect seniors and Medicare from harmful physician payment cuts.  We must also have budget certainty for job creators, and stop lurching from one budget crisis to the next; this bipartisan agreement provides that certainty.  I am very displeased, however, about cuts to pensions that so many retirees, including our veterans, rely upon.  It is also unthinkable that Congress would adjourn for the year without extending unemployment benefits upon which so many Ventura County families rely.”
