On this day and every day, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our veterans and their families for their extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and service to our country.

More than 40,000 veterans and their loved ones call Ventura County and the Conejo Valley home, and I am proud to work on their behalf in Congress. Honoring our veterans is a responsibility that never ends, and neither does the work to ensure they receive the care, benefits, and support they have earned.

As Ranking Member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health, one of my top priorities is to identify disparities in care for veterans and to introduce, advocate for, and pass legislation that closes those gaps.

This week, I introduced a comprehensive legislative package of four bills: the Veterans Healthcare Improvement Act, the Have You Served Act of 2025, the Every Veteran Counts Act, and the Helping Homeless Veterans Act.

Together, these bills will strengthen veterans’ access to high-quality health care, housing, and essential support services. They will also help ensure the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has the tools, resources, and accountability it needs to deliver on its mission. I know that our veterans and their families are struggling during this historic government shutdown. From delayed benefits and uncertainty about health care coverage to disruptions in food assistance, millions of veterans are being forced to bear the undue burden of political dysfunction. Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country, and they should never be used as pawns in partisan games.

House Democrats are working to reopen the government, restore critical food assistance, and lower health care costs for the heroes who have served our nation. While the House has been out of session for more than 50 days, my offices remain open and ready to assist you. If you or someone you know needs help with the VA or any federal agency, please call (805) 379-1779. We are here to help.

We owe our veterans more than gratitude. We owe them action, and I will never stop fighting to uphold our solemn promise to serve our veterans as well as they have served our nation.

With gratitude,

JULIA BROWNLEY
Member of Congress
