Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) voted to repeal the ill-conceived provision of the Murray-Ryan budget bill that reduced the Cost-of-Living-Adjustment (COLA) for military retirees under the age of 62.
“The military retiree COLA cut should never have been in the bipartisan budget bill in the first place,” said Congresswoman Brownley. “As a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I immediately introduced legislation to reverse it because we made a sacred promise to our servicemembers. It’s about time the speaker brought a vote to the floor to repeal it.”
Congresswoman Brownley had previously introduced legislation (H.R. 3804) that attracted bipartisan co-sponsorship and put pressure on Speaker Boehner to allow a vote on this issue.
