Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) took to the House floor to call for a repeal of an ill-conceived provision of the Murray-Ryan budget bill that reduced the Cost-of-Living-Adjustment (COLA) for military retirees under the age of 62.
“As a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I believe our servicemembers, veterans, and their families must receive the benefits they have earned and deserve,” said Congresswoman Brownley. “These benefits are owed to them without equivocation. We should not balance the budget on the backs of military retirees who served our country for decades. They should not be punished because of Congress’ failure to get our fiscal House in order.”
Since its introduction on December 23, 2013, Brownley’s legislation (H.R. 3804) continues to attract bipartisan co-sponsorship.
