Washington, D.C.—Representative Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) released the statement below following a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives that would take a deeply personal and complex medical decision out of the hands of a woman and her doctor:
“Instead of working together in a bipartisan way to address the real challenges our nation faces like job creation, the security and expansion of the middle class, and equality for women in the workplace, House Republicans are acting on legislation that is clearly unconstitutional, and serves no other purpose but to undermine a woman’s right to privacy that was established in law more than 40 years ago.
“I strongly urge my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to stop this repeated assault on a woman’s right to choose, and to get back to the work the American people sent us here to do.”
