Washington, D.C.—Today, Representative Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village), Ranking Member on the U.S. House Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Health, held a hearing on legislation to improve veterans’ health benefits and better serve those who served our country.
“Our disabled veterans have sacrificed for and served our country honorably,“ said Congresswoman Brownley. “No disabled veteran should ever miss treatment because they can’t afford the costs associated with their travel. My legislation is another important step to ensure our veterans always receive access to the medical care they need and deserve.”
Oftentimes blind and catastrophically disabled veterans choose not to travel to VA medical centers for care because they cannot afford the costs associated with the travel. Congresswoman Brownley’s legislation, the Veterans Medical Access Act, would provide travel benefits for blind and severely disabled veterans who need to go long distances to obtain care at specialized rehabilitation centers.
