Thousand Oaks, CA – Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) recently announced the 28 high school students who received Congressional nominations to the U.S. service academies, which include the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York; United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York; and United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“These students represent the best and brightest of our youth, and as someone who grew up in a military family, I commend them for applying and am proud to nominate them for the academies,” said Congresswoman Brownley.

The nominees were required to apply to Congresswoman Brownley’s office by November 5, 2013, which was followed by interviews with a merit panel consisting of nine academy alumni. Additionally, they were required to go through the rigorous application process of each academy they were interested in attending.

The next step is for the academies to determine which of the nominees receive appointments. Congresswoman Brownley will announce them as they become known.
