Washington, D.C. – Today, following Wednesday’s release of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Inspector General’s interim report and that night’s House Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) called for VA Secretary Eric Shinseki to resign.
“Secretary Shinseki is an honorable man, who has served his country with distinction, but the Office of the Inspector General interim report makes it clear that what happened in Phoenix is not an isolated incident but a systemic one,” said Congresswoman Brownley. “My metric has always been to do what is best for our veterans, and I’ve concluded that a change of leadership is warranted. I believe Secretary Shinseki’s resignation would clear the way for new leadership to determine the facts, take corrective action, and hold those accountable.”
