Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D – Westlake Village) released the following statement to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month:
“As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize the many invaluable contributions and great achievements that the Latino community has made to the social and economic fabric of America throughout our nation’s history.
“From serving bravely at Naval Base Ventura County, to fostering economic growth through entrepreneurship and business ownership, to culturally enriching our community through the arts, Latinos make Ventura County a great place to live and work. The diversity we have in Ventura County – and across our nation – makes us stronger. The skills and talent that the Latino community continues to bring forth in Ventura County’s business, agriculture and other sectors are vital to our success and growth. We must continue to foster, invest in and highlight these contributions.
“This commemorative month reminds us that America is great because of the contributions of our diverse people. It is in this spirit that Congress must come together and pass bipartisan common-sense comprehensive immigration reform. Comprehensive immigration reform would invest in our future, drive the economy, protect American jobs, reduce the deficit, and keep families and communities together.”
