Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) joined House Freshmen lawmakers and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer for a press conference to urge Speaker Boehner to act without delay on immigration reform.

“Let’s move forward together by passing our bipartisan bill in the House, to help grow our economy – in Ventura County, in California, and across the country” said Congresswoman Julia Brownley. “Welcoming these workers and families fully into our country will improve their lives and ours.  As citizens, these immigrants would pay taxes and boost the Social Security Trust Fund by $500 billion over the next 25 years, ensuring that we keep our promises to America’s seniors.”

According to the Center for American Progress, comprehensive immigration reform would boost California state revenue by $125 billion dollars over 10 years, money that could be used to improve schools, rebuild roads and aging infrastructure, and strengthen the economy.

Brownley is a cosponsor of a bipartisan, House-led comprehensive immigration reform bill, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (H.R. 15).  This bill would secure America’s borders and contains the same provisions in the Senate-passed immigration bill which protect our workers, unite families, and offer hardworking immigrants an earned pathway to citizenship.  190 House Members from both parties support H.R. 15.
