Washington, D.C.— Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) issued the following statement for Independence Day:
“Every Fourth of July, we gather with family and friends to celebrate the founding of our great nation. With the penning of the Declaration of Independence 238 years ago, a new nation of the people, by the people, and for the people was born. While our country has endured many conflicts and trials since then, America’s dedication to ‘life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness’ has not wavered.
“On this day, let us also take a moment to recognize the brave servicemembers and veterans who fought so bravely for these values we hold dear but often take for granted. I am proud to represent the brave men and women serving at Naval Base Ventura County, who are essential to ensuring that the American Dream is alive and well for people across Ventura County and the country.
“It is in this spirit that I wish you a safe, healthy, and happy Independence Day.”
