Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26) issued the following statement on the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s second term.

“President Trump’s second term has begun with 100 days of chaos – marred by lawsuits, unchecked executive overreach, and reckless policies that threaten the very fabric of our democracy. This administration has shown nothing but contempt for the rule of law, flouting court orders and undermining the rights of the American people. From attacking the federal workforce to eroding judicial independence, Trump has weakened the very institutions designed to protect our freedoms – all while failing to deliver on his top promise: lowering costs for the American people.

“Trump’s failed economic policies have caused widespread market volatility and turmoil, deepened economic inequality, and left working families behind, while his proposed tax scheme will deliver handouts to billionaires and big corporations. His administration has weakened our national security, alienated our allies, and diminished America’s standing on the world stage. And through deliberate rollbacks of environmental protections and climate denialism, the Trump administration has done irreparable harm to our planet, abandoning the fight against climate change when the stakes have never been higher. And this administration’s relentless efforts to slash Medicaid, strip protections from those with pre-existing conditions, and gut funding for public health, medical research, and scientific innovation have undermined the very foundations of many Americans’ health and well-being.

“Instead of marking this milestone with meaningful progress, House Republicans are pushing a disastrous economic package, which is an all-out assault on working families, seniors, children, and veterans. Their proposal is a direct attack on Medicaid, food assistance, and other vital programs that millions rely on every day. This budget isn’t just irresponsible, it is a betrayal of the values that make our country strong and a direct assault on future generations.

“While the past few months have been exhausting and deeply frustrating, now is not the time to back down. The American people have made their outrage with this administration’s reckless agenda loud and clear – and we must continue to hold them accountable.

“House Democrats remain focused on standing up for the American people, defending our democracy, and protecting the rights of all people. The next 100 days must be about raising our voices and fighting back with unrelenting strength.

“I will continue to keep the pressure on this administration – in Congress, in the courts, and in our communities – because our fight is not just about today. It’s about the future of millions of Americans who deserve far better than the chaos and cruelty of this administration.”
