Washington, D.C— Today Representative Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) voted against the More Hunger, Less Opportunity Act (H.R. 3102), which would slash nearly $40 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a program that primarily helps feed children, seniors, the disabled, and our veterans.
“More than 68,000 Ventura County residents rely on SNAP benefits to keep from going hungry,” said Congresswoman Julia Brownley. “Instead of taking the food out of the mouths of our children, individuals with disabilities, our seniors, and our veterans, we need to focus on the work Americans sent us here to do: creating jobs and strengthening our economy.”
The More Hunger, Less Opportunity Act (H.R. 3102) is opposed by religious, charitable, hunger, senior, homeless, and farm groups, such as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, American Baptist Churches, Presbyterian Church, National Association of Evangelicals, Bread for the World, Feeding America, No Kid Hungry, FRAC, AARP, Council on Aging, NAACP, NEA, NCLR, Moms Rising, National Congress of American Indians, and National Farmers Union.
