Since the lapse in appropriations over three weeks ago, my office has received countless phone calls from constituents who are concerned about the consequences of a prolonged government shutdown and the uncertainty surrounding the affordability of their health care.

With the cost of living already being staggering high, families across the nation simply cannot afford higher health insurance premiums too. Hardworking Americans, including our federal employees, do not deserve to suffer because extremists in Congress refuse to show up to work and would rather worsen the health care crisis they created in the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” (H.R. 1).

I am fighting alongside House Democrats to reverse the devastating cuts to Medicaid in H.R. 1 and prevent premiums from skyrocketing come January 1, 2026. Democrats in the House and the Senate remain ready to vote on a spending bill that reopens the government, but we will not compromise when it comes to ensuring the affordability and accessibility of health care for the American people.

Join My Upcoming Town Hall

On Thursday, October 23, I will be hosting a telephone town hall with Protect Our Care to talk to my constituents about what is happening to their health care and what House Democrats are doing to negotiate a responsible end to this government shutdown.

This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and share your thoughts on the health care crisis and other issues important to you. If you’re interested in joining, visit my website to sign up.
