Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) applauded the launch of the Veterans Employment Center website. This new website will serve as a resource linking together veterans and employers.

Far too many veterans in Ventura County — and across the country — are unemployed, and I believe we have a solemn obligation to do whatever we can to retrain them for the jobs of the future.

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley issued the following statement about Sgt. Eduardo C. Gomez, who received the Medal of Honor posthumously for his courageous actions in the Korean War during a White House ceremony honoring 24 Army veterans for their valor in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) and Congressman Mark Takano (D-Riverside) introduced the Help Hire Our Heroes Act, a bill that would extend the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) for six months. This extension of the VRAP authorization and additional funding would allow veterans to participate and would pay veterans VRAP benefits through September 30, 2014.

Yesterday, House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health Ranking Member Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) participated in a hearing entitled “VA Accountability: Assessing Actions Taken in Response to Subcommittee Oversight.”

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) voted to repeal the ill-conceived provision of the Murray-Ryan budget bill that reduced the Cost-of-Living-Adjustment (COLA) for military retirees under the age of 62.

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) is pleased to announce that the GI Bill Tuition Fairness Act has passed the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill would provide veterans the opportunity to enroll in higher education courses at public institutions nationwide while paying in-state rates for tuition and fees regardless of their state of residence. Today, on the anniversary of the 2011 VOW to Hire Heroes Act, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) urged Congress to continue supporting our veterans by passing the VOW to Hire Heroes Extension Act (H.R. 3395).
