Delivering $13 Million for Community Projects Across Ventura County and the Conejo Valley
Over the past year, I have worked with local leaders and stakeholders to secure over $13 million in much needed investments for 15 community projects throughout Ventura County and the Conejo Valley. From a state-of-the-art telecommunications system for local law enforcement agencies to municipal water and sewer pipeline replacements to building a new public library to improvements to our transportation systems, these community projects will not only meet the unique needs of our region but they will also bolster our local economic growth and create good-paying jobs.

Brownley Introduces Legislation to Expand Access to Marriage and Family Therapists at VA
Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced the introduction of the VA Marriage and Family Therapists Equity Act, legislation which would expand access to professional therapists for veterans and their families. Specifically, this bill would remove an onerous regulation that limits the practice of nearly half of all the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) employed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Brownley, Ezell, Whitehouse, and Wicker Lead Bipartisan, Bicameral Resolution Recognizing the United States Navy Seabees
Congresswoman Julia Brownley joined Congressman Mike Ezell in introducing a resolution marking the 82nd anniversary of the establishment of the United States Naval Construction Force, more commonly known as the “Seabees.” The resolution recognizes the tremendous sacrifices and contributions of the Seabees, who have fought and served on behalf of our country. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Senator Roger Wicker introduced the companion legislation in the United States Senate.

I am excited to invite all high school students in grades 9-12 throughout California’s 26th Congressional District to participate in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition! This is a wonderful opportunity for our region’s youth to showcase their creativity and talent. The winning artwork will be publicly displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for a year, along with winners from across the nation.

Brownley Leads Bipartisan, Bicameral Effort to Establish Biosecurity Guardrails in DNA Research
Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced Congressional action calling on the U.S. Office of Science, Technology, and Policy (OSTP) to issue strong guidance that mitigates risk and misuse of synthetic nucleic acids, a vital bio-material. Brownley’s effort was co-led by Representatives Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Neal P. Dunn, MD (R-FL), Bill Foster (D-IL), Andy Harris, MD (R-MD), Sara Jacobs (D-CA), Rich McCormick, MD, MBA (R-GA), August Pfluger (R-TX), and Haley M. Stevens (D-MI), as well as Senator Edward J. Markey (D-MA), in a letter to OSTP Director Arati Prabhakar urging the agency to issue guidance to gene synthesis providers that will ensure safety, while promoting innovation.

Brownley Secures $3.8 Million for Water Pipeline Replacement Projects in Oxnard
Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced an award of $3,806,152 for the City of Oxnard to replace aging cast iron waterline pipes at risk of failure throughout the city. The 60-year-old pipes have reached the end of their useful life, and are constantly in need of repairs, which is disruptive and costly to the residents of the city. With this funding, the city will be able to deliver clean water to the residents of Oxnard while creating good-paying jobs in the region.

Brownley Presents $963,000 to the County of Ventura for Regional Public Safety Radio Project
Recently, Congresswoman Julia Brownley presented $963,000 to the County of Ventura to upgrade the region’s 15-year-old analog simulcast radio communications system. The funds will go toward establishing a state-of-the-art digital radio communication system which will utilize 700MHz frequencies. The upgraded radio system will be used by all public safety entities throughout the county to improve communications interoperability for public safety and first responder individuals as they respond to incidents and disasters.

Brownley Announces Planned Parenthood Clinician as State of the Union Guest
Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced that health care clinician, Cara DelVecchio, will be her guest at this year’s State of the Union Address, which will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 9:00 PM Eastern/6:00 PM Pacific. DelVeccio serves as the Lead Clinician for Planned Parenthood California Central Coast’s health center in Thousand Oaks, where she provides direct patient care.
