Washington, D.C.—Representative Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village) released the following statement today regarding reports that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) targeted groups based on political affiliation:
“The IRS is an independent agency and has an obligation to the American people to remain nonpartisan at all times. Any action not based on political neutrality is completely irresponsible and undermines the institution’s ability to hold all organizations equally accountable to our nation’s tax and campaign finance laws. The recent actions by IRS personnel were an abuse of power and those responsible should be held fully accountable.”
