In June 2026, Congress unveiled the 554-page Take Care of America’s Veterans Act—a package of more than 60 bills that impact veterans and their benefits, but has drawn some strong opposition. The DRIVE Act, introduced in 2025, is not included in that legislation. It would tie VA mileage reimbursements for veteran care to the GSA rate and require properly submitted claims to be paid within 90 days. Rep. Julia Brownley (D-Calif.) is a sponsor of the bill.

Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26), Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), and Congressman Derek Tran (CA-45) led 32 members of the California Congressional Delegation in a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries raising the alarm about a section in the surface transportation reauthorization bill, the BUILD America 250 Act (H.R. 8870), that would give rideshare companies immunity from any injury, sexual assault, or fatality that happens during a ride.

On Thursday, May 7, Congresswoman Julia Brownley presented checks to the City of Camarillo and the City of Oxnard for community projects she secured federal funding for through the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process.

Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced additional funding that she secured for California’s 26th Congressional District in the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations process. The funding ensures continued federal support for important transportation and infrastructure investments throughout Ventura County and the Conejo Valley. In total, Brownley secured more than $62 million for local infrastructure, transportation, and resilience projects in the FY26 appropriations process.

Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26) joined Congressman John Garamendi (CA-08), a senior member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, and Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) to introduce the Transit Workforce Development Act, a bill to expand workforce training and strengthen the pipeline of skilled workers needed to support the nation’s public transportation systems.  

U.S. Rep. Julia Brownley came to town July 16 to present city leaders with a check for $1.6 million in funding for the project, aimed at improving transportation choices and making cycling in Agoura Hills the safest and most accessible it has ever been.

Researchers say EV’s could be made so they not only get charged through the grid, but they have the ability to feed electricity back. Vehicles would have to be modified to feed electricity back into the system. It’s called bidirectional electric charging. Democratic Congresswoman Julia Brownley of Westlake Village is sponsoring a bill to help develop the technology.

A bill filed in July by U.S. Rep. Julia Brownley, D-Calif., would adjust language in the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010 to increase payments to veterans under what’s known as the beneficiary travel program. Instead of saying the secretary of defense “may” adjust the mileage rate, Brownley’s measure would require that increase to be “at least” equal to the rate set for use of privately owned vehicles by U.S. government employees.
