Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley announced the introduction of the Protecting Social Workers and Health Professionals from Workplace Violence Act, which seeks to address the safety needs of social workers and health care professionals by establishing a grant program within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for social, health, and human service professionals to fund the implementation of workplace safety programs. Senator Krysten Sinema introduced companion legislation in the Senate.

Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley and Congressman Peter Welch announced the introduction of H.R. 8398, the Driver Reimbursement Increase for Veteran Equity (DRIVE) Act. An effort to name an Oxnard post office after a local civil rights leader took one step forward last week after passage of a bill in the U.S. House.

Congresswoman Julia Brownley, D-Westlake, introduced the legislation to name the building at 1961 N. C St. as the John R. Hatcher, III Post Office Building, according to a news release.

Thousands of women were discharged because of pregnancy, and many received no separation benefits. The policy was rescinded in 1976 after a federal court ruled it was unconstitutional.
