Brownley and Takano Shame VA for Flippant Response to Sexual Assault Allegations
Today, Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26), Chairwoman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health, and House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (CA-41) issued the following statements after VA released a letter calling into question a Committee staffer’s allegations of sexual assault at a VA facility this September. Brownley Introduces Bill to Make the Federal Government a Renewable Energy Leader
Today, Congresswoman Brownley (D-Westlake Village) introduced the Green Energy for Federal Buildings Act, which would require the federal government to increase the amount of renewable energy it consumes to 35% of its total electricity by 2030, 75% by 2040, and 100% by 2050. This bill would also encourage – to the maximum extent possible – that the federal government use renewable energy that is produced on-site at federal facilities, on federal lands, or on tribal lands.

Brownley’s Deborah Sampson Act Passes House
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Deborah Sampson Act, legislation authored by Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village), which will address inequities and barriers that women veterans face when accessing VA care and benefits. The bill is named after a Revolutionary War veteran, Deborah Sampson Gannett, who served in the Continental Army from 1782-1783 and was awarded a full military pension for her military service after years of petitioning Congress.
